Injection Molding

Injection Molding

Injection molding is one of the production methods NOVATRUM may use when a part has suitable demand, geometry, material requirement and production volume.

NOVATRUM injection molding production path for automotive plastic parts

Role of Injection Molding

Injection molding is normally considered after the design has been proven through development and test fitting. It is best suited for products that need repeatable quality, consistent surface finish, stable dimensions and lower unit cost at higher quantities.

When It Makes Sense

  • The product has stable repeat demand
  • The design is already tested or can be tested before tooling
  • The required finish and dimensional consistency justify tooling cost
  • The expected quantity is high enough to make mold development practical
  • The part is suitable for plastic injection molding materials and process limits

Development Considerations

Before mold development, we review function, wall thickness, parting line, mounting points, surface finish, material selection, quantity target, packaging and expected retail or wholesale direction. These factors help determine whether injection molding is more appropriate than low-volume production.

Tooling and Production

Tooling cost, lead time and production quantity vary by part size, complexity, material and finishing requirement. For many new ideas, prototype testing or small-batch validation should come before committing to mold production.
